Friends of the Ecusta Trail
The Ecusta Trail is a PROPOSED rail trail between the cities of Hendersonville and Brevard, North Carolina. It is envisioned as a multi-use walk, hike and bike 19 - mile greenway along the railway corridor connecting Hendersonville, Laurel Park, Horse Shoe, Etowah, Pisgah Forest and Brevard. Once complete, it will connect with the Brevard Bike Path, the Estatoe bike path leading into Pisgah Forest and the Ochlawaha greenway connecting Jackson Park, Patton Park and Berkeley Park in Hendersonville.
Many rail trails exist in our country, and have become destinations for tourists, and lifestyle enhancements for locals. Friends of the Ecusta Trail (a 501 (c) 3) believes that our area has a unique opportunity to evaluate possibilities associated with a rail trail – both economic and lifestyle benefits – and has become an official organization devoted to this task. Friends of the Ecusta Trail also believes that other trail development in the area is possible, and will explore and support such opportunities for greenspace development between Henderson and Transylvania Counties. By promoting both a proposed rail trail and development of other multi-use trails, two vibrant western North Carolina counties can be connected for recreation, active transportation and economic development.
In the past few years, the Friends of the Ecusta Trail have helped develop an economic impact and planning study for the trail and are actively communicating this data with community groups and civic leaders throughout the region.
So join us in our dream – become informed and involved. This website provides the information you need to do both, and we welcome you as a Friend.
