Welcome to the Friends of the Ecusta Trail official website. The Ecusta Trail is the name of a proposed trail (yet to be established) between the cities of Hendersonville and Brevard, North Carolina. This proposed trail –envisioned as a multi-use hike and bike 18- mile greenway along the railway corridor between the two cities – is a dream that will take time to accomplish.
Many rail trails exist in our country, and have become destinations for tourists, and lifestyle enhancements for locals. Friends of the Ecusta Trail believes that our area has a unique opportunity to evaluate possibilities associated with a rail trail – both economic and lifestyle benefits – and has become an official organization devoted to this task. Friends of the Ecusta Trail also believes that other trail development in the area is possible, and will explore and support such opportunities for greenspace development between Henderson and Transylvania Counties. By promoting both a proposed rail trail and development of other multi-use trails, two vibrant western North Carolina counties can be connected for recreation, active transportation and economic development.
The Friends’ first task is to conduct a thorough economic impact study related to the implementation of a rail trail, and to raise funds to support the study. With reliable data regarding the positive economic impact that could be achieved with implementation of the Ecusta Trail, we can then more formally begin discussions with political leaders, the railway organization, and others whose support will be necessary to move forward. So join us in our dream – become informed and involved. This website provides the information you need to do both, and we welcome you as a Friend.
